ABOUT ILLINOIS BLACK HISTORY MUSEUM

The Illinois Black History Museum, a non-profit and mobile organization, founded in 2023 serves as a cultural and educational center that aims to celebrate the achievements, struggles, and resilience of African Americans throughout history.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Illinois Black History Museum is dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and educating the public about the rich and diverse history, culture, and contributions of Blacks in Illinois. Through exhibitions, programs, and community outreach, we strive to illuminate the stories of resilience, achievement, and social justice that have shaped our state's history. Our mission is to inspire understanding, foster inclusivity, and promote dialogue that honors the past while advancing a more equitable future for all.

VISION

The vision of the Illinois Black History Museum is to honor and celebrate the rich and diverse history of Blacks in Illinois. It aims to educate, inspire, and empower visitors by preserving and presenting stories, artifacts, and achievements that highlight the contributions of Blacks to the cultural, social, political, and economic development of Illinois and the United States as a whole. The museum strives to foster understanding, promote social justice, and encourage dialogue on issues of race and equality through its exhibitions, programs, and community outreach efforts. Ultimately, the vision is to create a space where the past, present, and future of Illinois' Black community can be explored and appreciated.
